SMART4SEA will deliver a set of tangible tools, strategies and knowledge resources that strengthen environmental traceability, circularity and sustainability across the Atlantic seafood sector. The project will produce:
1.
Environmental Traceability Framework
A harmonised system integrating real-time data, LCA indicators and blockchain traceability to ensure transparent and reliable environmental information across the seafood value chain.
2.
Digital Platform for Data Collection and Sharing
A robust ICT platform capable of collecting, storing and sharing operational and environmental data, supporting decision-making for industry, authorities and consumers.
3.
Blue Circular Strategies to Reduce Waste
Circular strategies addressing food loss, waste-to-value opportunities, nutrient recycling and macroplastic reduction, promoting efficient and circular seafood systems.
4.
Scientific Evidence on Plastics and Microplastics
New data on microplastic contamination in key seafood species, the impact of cooking methods, and datasets on the fate and transport of microplastics in marine environments.
5.
Social Sustainability Recommendations for Fisheries
Strategic recommendations addressing workforce ageing, labour conditions and generational renewal, engaging authorities and industry to strengthen social resilience.
6.
Smart Labels and Consumer Insights
QR/NFC environmental labels tested in pilot cases, combined with consumer perception studies to improve transparency and support sustainable purchasing choices.
