About the project

Understanding SMART4SEA

SMART4SEA builds on the experience and lessons learned from the NEPTUNUS project (EAPA_576/2018), which laid the foundations for environmental assessment and sustainability analysis in the Atlantic seafood sector. Through NEPTUNUS, key gaps were identified, particularly in terms of environmental traceability, data integration, digitalisation and effective communication of sustainability information to stakeholders and consumers.

SMART4SEA was conceived to address these gaps by advancing digital traceability systems, strengthening environmental transparency and bringing science closer to industry, policymakers and society. The project adopts a holistic approach that combines technology, environmental assessment and stakeholder engagement to support a more sustainable and trustworthy seafood value chain.
