The EU project NETTAG+ will hold its final event on the 14th and 15th of April in Vila do Conde and Póvoa de Varzim (Portugal) by organizing a Scientific Workshop and a stakeholder-oriented demonstration day that will bring together researchers, policymakers and representatives of the fisheries sector. ARVI, as part of the project’s consortium, will participate in the meeting, where innovative solutions tackling marine litter from fisheries will be presented and demonstrated.

NETTAG+ focuses on preventing, avoiding and mitigating the impacts of lost or abandoned fishing gear through technological tools such as acoustic tags and robotic systems. These technologies help detect and recover gear from the marine environment. By promoting responsible fishing practices and supporting gear recovery, the project contributes to reducing ghost fishing and protecting marine ecosystems.

Initiatives such as NETTAG+ highlight the growing role of innovation and collaboration in improving the environmental sustainability of the fisheries sector. This approach is also shared by projects like SMART4SEA, which aim to enhance environmental and social traceability across seafood value chains.
