🔎 Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a tool used to assess the sustainability of products and services throughout their life cycles.

As part of the Smart4Sea project, the University of Cantabria is conducting an LCA study to assess the sustainability performance of different aspects of the project. Gathering feedback from relevant stakeholders is essential to advancing sustainability. For this reason, engaging experts from different fields and sectors is key to discussing the project’s approach and identifying improvement opportunities.

🤝 Connecting Research and Practice

On 30 September, the University of Cantabria hosted the workshop “El ACV como herramienta para la transición sostenible de empresas y territorios” (“LCA as a Tool for the Sustainability Transition in Companies and Territories”). The event brought together sustainability experts from research institutions, public administrations, and the private sector.

During the workshop, researchers from the University of Cantabria presented some of the work carried out within Work Package 1 (WP1) of Smart4Sea, which focuses on the environmental assessment and traceability of seafood supply chains. The event also provided a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the project among professionals from different fields and sectors, linking Smart4Sea’s objectives with broader discussions on sustainability assessment tools.

Beyond presenting the project’s work, the workshop provided an opportunity to raise awareness of Smart4Sea and engage with stakeholders from different fields and sectors. This participation supports the stakeholder engagement and networking objectives of Work Package 2 (WP2), which focuses on understanding consumer and stakeholder behaviour in relation to environmental traceability in the seafood sector. The event also offered a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives on sustainability assessment and the potential role of digital tools in improving transparency across seafood supply chains.

🌊 How Smart4Sea Contributes

Through LCA, Smart4Sea aims to improve the understanding of environmental impacts across seafood supply chains and support the transition towards more sustainable practices.
